Alejandro Ruiz


Alejandro Ruiz was born in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, on December, 18th 1958. Graduated in Industrial Design in 1984 at the U.N.L.P. in La Plata, Argentina.

After the university he moved to Milan, Italy in1985, where he took a Master degree at Domus Academy with Francesco Binfarrè, in 1986. He worked as a designer for Alessandro Mendini at Studio Alchimia in 1985 – 1986 and for Pierluigi Cerri at Gregotti Associatti International from 1987 until 1989, when he opened his own design studio in Milan.

He has given design lessons at Istituto Europeo di Design (1988), Domus Academy, as assistant to A, Branzi, M. Morozzi in1989-1990 and together with F. Bimfarrè at the Faculty of Architecture-Politecnico di Milano in Mantova in1991. He is currently teaching Progetto II and III at Istituto Macchina in Brescia, Italy.

Studio Ruiz Sas, founded in 1994, operates in the fields of Industrial, Communication and Interior Design. It works or has worked for; Electrolux Group, Pasabahce, Venini, Alessi, Authentics, 3M, Fiat-Alfa Romeo, Giannini, I Guzzini, Virgin Records, Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica Leonardo da Vinci di Milano, De Agostani, Comune di Bologna, Comune di Milano, Archivio di Stato di Milano, Ikea, Kellogs and others.

The cheese grater Parmenide, designed for Alessi is part of the Permanent Design Collection at the MOMA in New York. He has participated to several exhibitions in Design and Interior Architecture in Italy an abroad (France, England, Germany, Netherlands, Japan, USA).
